This is the first of what will hopefully be many on going reviews of some of the most legendary casinos across this great country and the globe. Today, I want to start off with my local home town casino the Horseshoe in Cincinnati, Ohio. This is a new casino and it is set near the downtown area. Originally, there was not much near the casino but the area around it has since grown up a little bit with condos, apartments and a few nearby shops. The biggest attraction that is within walking distance and probably the reason that the casino is where it is, would be the Greyhound Bus Station right next door. With ample parking and easy access to the highway, the casino is not hard to get into but it is hard to leave once the dice start rolling. Boasting numerous table games including 3-card poker and Blackjack as well as craps and roulette the casino isnt missing much. Also included in the casino is a large poker room that is often full with great games. On a recent visit to the casino, I found myself most concerned with the slots as the group I was with didn't allow for me to have much time on the floor. I am an avid slots player, and believe I have some good techniques for playing. I spent most of my time roaming the floor looking for the right machine. As to be expected many of the popular tv or movie themed slots were filled which left me with slim pickings. After placing my money and rewards card into the machine the fun began. I spun several times and was breaking even after a couple of minutes. Then just when I was thinking of giving up, I hit the magic combination in order to spin the wheel for the bonus game. In the bonus game I then won 6 free spins which allowed me to go up 20 dollars. Not a big win by any stretch of the word but none the less a win. It was on to the next machine. After another good search (you should be noticing a theme here, it was crowded for a Sunday afternoon) I was able to find another machine where I quickly lost my 20 dollar profit. This then continued on a third machine until i was finally down about 40 dollars. A 60 dollar swing in a matter of minutes. Regardless it was a good time on a quick visit to the casino especially for the first time visitor in our group. I have been to the Horseshoe numerous times including the soft opening night and have always enjoyed myself. If there is something bad about this place I haven't found it.
Overall CasinYes review:
Slots-Plenty to go around even when the busses are there. Wide range of denominations especially in the high limit room. Lots of noise, action, and excitement!
Table Games-Dealers are friendly and often times helpful if you dont understand the game. I would suggest that a beginner play with a friend or read up on how to play. This has been a big turn around since the early days of the casino as many of the dealers struggled. The dealers abilities have improved tremendously and it shows!
Bar-The bar in the center is very quick with service, but it is the only place to get a drink out on the floor. During busy times they will set up mobile bars but they only take cash to my understanding. Some of the restaurants will allow you to take the drinks out of their areas but some are required to have you finish it on site. Check with the restaurant just to be sure.
Restaurants- I have tried everything except the buffet (shocking right?). All of them are good especially the pizza place which I believe is the best deal in the place. Margaritaville and Binnions steakhouse are great choices but they are exactly what you would expect and nothing more. Just for clarification I have only had drinks in the bar at Binnions, I haven't had the full steak experience.
Overall- this is a very solid casinYes! You can have a very good time hanging with friends or being a power player gambler. It is easy to get around and very easy to find your friends if you split up for a bit. The food choices are great and the party atmosphere outside whether it be for a concert on the lawn or something in the near by Over the Rhine neighborhood is very fun. This is definetly a CASINYES!
